By word of FCM Wayne Ervenx, this editor is sad to report the passing of FCM Captain Clifford N. Seaver, USN (Ret), VF-6, '44-'45 on June 10th last at the age of 89. Captain Seaver was a member of the famed fighter squadron that was under command of LCDR Edward Henry 'Butch' O'Hare. He also flew off the USS Cowpens, USS Independence, USS Hancock and the USS Intrepid during WWII. Sorry to say, there is no mention of his existing family.

Let Us Not Forget Those Who Have Gone Before Us

From the Editor's Desk :

Fellow former crewmembers... I am happy to inform you that
the concerns reflected in last week's OnLine Report have been resolved.

This editor thanks all who have personally shown their support, to me,
for the concerns that were presented.

On behalf of our membership, I thank our Board representatives for their realizing
that addressing any concerns brought to their table by the membership,
 is required, as we all must strive to keep alive, the memory of the Intrepid;
the memory of all who have given their lives, and all others in service aboard her
for the good of our organization.

Thank you - John Simonetti - Editor

From the Board Room:

The announcement last week, to discontinue John's OnLine Report, was the result of a misunderstanding between John and me. The situation has been resolved and the OnLine Report
will continue to be published on schedule.

The Board of Directors is well aware of the memberships desire for more information regarding BOD meetings and financial reports and these topics have been discussed many times, in the past.

At last weeks Board meeting we came to a decision that, beginning with the next issue of the Ketcher, the latest financial report, membership report, and meeting minutes will be published.  The minutes will be an abbreviated version, to encompass minutes from (3) meetings.

I hope this decision will afford the membership a better insight into the BOD and create a sense of openness between the membership and the BOD.

FCM Dick Mills, President, USS Intrepid Association, Inc.

An update on our organizations's Chaplain:

As reported in early July, our Chaplain, Rabbi Kloner, Admr, USN (Ret) suffered a near fatal fall.
Rabbi Kloner, currently being cared for at Mount Sinai hospital in New York City, is being weaned off of the respirator that was required when he was first admitted.

Unfortunately, his condition remains unchanged.  He is still in a coma and listed as critical, but stable.

All will be advised of any developments, when received.

From the Ready Room :

Salutations gentlemen,

I think we all had a pretty bad scare when we heard about the demise of the OnLine Report.  The resolution was very welcome news and I want to thank John Simonetti for his dedication to the OnLine Report.

My not forwarding the weekly report in the past few months has given me the feeling of losing touch with many of you.  There is too much good information that we can share for us to lose touch.

A few weeks ago, Captain Floyd Brown, USN (ret) wrote about some boyhood memories in "Making Hay".  I found it to be very interesting and brought back memories of farm life for me back in Manitoba, Canada.

For those of you who are ANA Members, there is an article in "Wings of Gold" on page 60 of the current Summer 2010 edition, that was written by Joan Flanary about her life 'growing up in the English Midlands in World War II'.  Very interesting story and makes you appreciate the excellent job our Military has done in protecting our Nation over the years.  Joan is the wife of Captain Tom Flanary, USN (ret) who served with us in VS-24 in the early 1960's.  Tom went on to become the CO of VS-31 which was aboard the USS Intrepid on her last mission in 1974.

Anyone interested in more information on the Association of Naval Aviation can contact Tom Flanary at farflew@widomaker.com or Carroll Bains at cdrflynav@cox.net.

One last item.  Captain Bob Stone, USN (ret) our former XO & CO of VS-24 has had some recent physical problems.  He is on the recovery side of both pneumonia and pleurisy.  At his doctors' encouragement, he has moved into an assisted living close to his condo in Virginia Beach so he can get immediate aide, if needed.  He has his email and I'm sure, would welcome a note or even a visit!  bob_stone@comcast.net  (That's an underscore _ between his name)

Warm regards,

FCM Ron Zielke, VS-24 & USS Intrepid, Email: rjzielke@charter.net

Constitution of the United States : - continued

Fourth Amendment :

The Fourth Amendment (Amendment IV) to the United States Constitution is the part of the Bill of Rights which guards against unreasonable searches and seizures. The amendment specifically also requires search and arrest warrants be judicially sanctioned and supported by probable cause. It was adopted as a response to the abuse of the writ of assistance,, which is a type of general seach warrant,, in the American Revolution. Search and arrest should be limited in scope according to specific information supplied to the issuing court,, usually by a law enforcement officer, who has sworn by it.

In Mapp v. Ohio367 U.S. 643 (1961), the Supreme Court ruled that the Fourth Amendment applies to the states by way of the Due Process Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment. The Supreme Court has also ruled that certain searches and seizures violated the Fourth Amendment even when a warrant was properly granted.

Text :

"The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized."

On the Lighter Side :

Charley, a new retiree-greeter at Wal-Mart, just couldn't seem to get to work on time.

Every day he was 5, 10, 15 minutes late. But he was a good worker,
really tidy, clean-shaven, sharp minded and a real credit to the company
and obviously demonstrating their "Older Person Friendly" policies.

One day the boss called him into the office for a talk. "Charley, I have to tell you,
I like your work ethic, you do a bang up job,
but your being late so often is quite bothersome."

"Yes, I know boss, and I am working on it."
''Well good, you are a team player.
That's what I like to hear, but it's odd though...your coming in late.

I  know you're retired from the Armed Forces.  What did they say if you came in late there?"

''They said, "Good morning, Admiral, can I get you coffee, sir?'''
